How to care for your Alocasia Pink Dragon?
Light
Alocasia are originally from the tropical areas of Southeast Asia. Therefor its best to keep the plant in a warm spot. The Alocasia Pink Dragon will do best in a spot with indirect sunlight throughout the day. Make sure no bright direct sunlight will hit the leaves, it could cause burn marks on those gorgeous leaves.
Water
Depending on your climate, Alocasia might be a bit needy when it comes to watering. Alocasia Pink Dragon is most happy with a bit of a moist soil. Always be careful not to drown the plant in too much water.
Soil
Alocasia species like a well draining potting soil. Drainage is key with most Alocasia. Use a light potting mixture, combining your regular soil with some perlite and pine bark. If you don’t like the mess of making your own soil you can try using our pre-made soil mixtures, which are great for all aroids.
Humidity
Like most aroids the Alocasia likes a humid environment. The humidity should be at least 65%. However to keep your Alocasia Pink Dragon in optimal condition we do recommend a humidity level of about 70% to 75%. When humidity is too low it may give you crispy leaves.
Fertilisation
In the summer months it is advisable to use some fertilizer while watering. This will give your plant an extra kick to grow and some much needed nutrients. Please always check the instructions on your own fertilizer if it has other care instructions.
Repotting
Repotting your Alocasia can be done best at the beginning of the growing season. Depending on how root bound your plant is, it’s wise to repot your plant every year or every other year. If the plant is root bound give it a slightly bigger pot. If not, just give your Alocasia some fresh soil.
Toxicity
The Alocasia is toxic for humans and animals if ingested.
