Description

An Anthurium like you’ve never seen before. The Anthurium Vittarifolium is a real unique sort. The plant has beautiful long leaves that can grow up to two meters long! The leaves are firm with a beautiful velvet glow. Are you into rare plants? Then the Anthurium Vittarifolium is a real must-have for you plant collection!

Just like many other Anthurium species, the Anthurium Vittarifolium finds its origin in the tropical rain forests of South America. As you can imagine, this plant needs a high humidity, just like in the jungle. Make sure that the plant hangs in a warm place, but not above a heater or on the draft. A temperature between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius is ideal. The Anthurium Vittarifolium also likes light, but does not tolerate full sunlight. So try to make sure that the plant is slightly away from the window. In addition, good watering of the plant is of course very important. Usually you give the plant a little water once a week. The soil may well remain a little moist in between watering. Do make sure there is sufficient drainage. The Anthurium Vittarifolium does not like wet feet, that can cause root rot. So preferably choose a potting soil that is well permeable to water, or ensure that the excess water can drain out of the pot. During the summer months you can choose to give some nutrition to the plant once a month while watering.

Did you also know that you can grow the Anthurium Vittarifolium from seed? Fortunately this is not very difficult. The plant does need to produce flowers of course. The plant can be fertilized if there is a male and a female flower in the plant. They don’t bloom at the same moment. The female flower always blooms first. When fertilization has taken place red berries will appear. You can carefully loosen these berries or wait for them to fall off. Carefully open the berry. A seed appears. You can then push this into the soil. Over time, a small plant will grow.

Once yo have one Anthurium and it thrives in your home grown jungle it’s difficult not to get more of these beautiful varieties. Anthurium are surely one of our favorite plants out there! We especially love Anthurium Clarinervium. Or perhaps you want to go for something more unique and rare? Check out these beautiful varieties: Anthurium Villenaorum, Anthurium Magnificum, Anthurium Forgetii Silver.
