How to care for your Aphelandra Squarrosa ‘White Wash’?
Light
Aphelandra will grow best when they’re situated in indirect light. Keep the plant out of too much shade and too bright direct sunlight.
Water
Caring for your Aphelandra Squarrosa ‘White Wash’ isn’t too difficult. Try to keep the soil a bit damp at all times. The plant doesn’t really like for the soil to dry out too much. A bit of water once a week should do the trick. During the winter time, the plant may go into dormancy and the growth will slow down. It’s advisable to also adapt the water gift to the plants needs.
Soil
Pot your Aphelandra in a mixture of potting soil and perlite. This will give sufficient drainage to the soil. Want to go all out? Try one of our pre-made aroid soil mixtures.
Humidity
To let the beautiful foliage shine it’s best to have a slightly higher than average humidity for your Aphelandra Squarrosa ‘White Wash’. Try keeping the humidity at at least 65%. With lower humidity the leaves can start crisping up.
Fertilisation
In the summer months you can fertilize the plant regularly. In the colder and winter months no fertiliser is needed. Please always check the instructions on your own fertilizer for the exact instructions.
Repotting
The best time to repot is during the beginning of the growing season. Aphelandra don’t need to be repotted very often. This low maintenance plant is fine with a repot once very 2 years or so.
Toxicity
Aphelandra species are considered non toxic for humans and animals when ingested.
