How to care for your Aspidistra Elatior?
Light
Aspidistra are very easy plants to care for. It are perfect plants for a place at home where there is some shade. And with their big green leaves and tropical look they’ll brighten up your space without effort.
Water
Aspidistra aren’t very thirsty plants. When watering once every other week you should be fine. No problem if the soil dries out in between waterings. Did you forget to water your Aspidistra Eliator one time? Also not a problem, this is a very forgiving plant! Too much water is far worse than to skip a water gift once.
Soil
For the soil not to stay too wet it’s advisable to get your plant a well draining soil mixture. You can achieve this by mixing some sustainable potting soil with perlite. Or take the easy way and get some of our Basic aroid soil mixture for your plant.
Humidity
You don’t need to go the extra mile to keep the humidity very high. An average house hold humidity of about 50% should work out fine.
Fertilisation
In the summer months you can fertilize the plant regularly. In the colder and winter months no fertiliser is needed. Please always check the instructions on your own fertilizer for the exact instructions.
Repotting
The best time to repot is during the beginning of the growing season. Aspidistra don’t need to be repotted very often. This low maintenance plant is fine with a repot once very 2 years or so.
Toxicity
Aspidistra species are considered non toxic for humans and animals when ingested.
