How to care for your Ceropegia Woodii ‘String of Hearts’?
Ceropegia are almost succulent like plants. They do appreciate a decent amount of bright but diffused light each day. Early mornings and/or late afternoon some direct sunlight is also not a problem. Just keep the plant out of the scorching heath during hot summer days.
As Ceropegia are a type of succulent they are sensitive to overwatering. Once the top few centimeters of the soil are dried out it’s time to water your plant again. In the hot summer months this probably means watering once a week. In colder months watering very other week is probably more appropriate. An other good way to tell if your Ceropegia Woodii ‘String of Hearts’ is to look at its ‘heats’. Once they’re shriveling it means that the water storage has run out.
A light soil mixture is best to keep your Ceropegia happy. You can use special cacti soil, which you can get at most garden centers. Alternatively you can mix some regular potting soil with some perlite and/or sand. For ultimate drainage you can even use some clay pebbles on the bottom of the pot to absorb to excess water.
Ceropegia Woodii ‘String of Hearts’ will do perfectly fine in any regular house hold environment. To keep them in excellent condition however its advisable to keep the humidity at leas at 50%.
In the growing season you can fertilize your Ceropegia without a problem. You can either use a special fertilizer for cacti or use a general fertilizer for house plants. Which one you choose, always check the care instructions before using the product.
The best time to repot is during the beginning of the growing season. When you repot your plant it’s best to use a new pot which is 20% bigger. This will give the roots some space to continue to grow. Repotting is recommended once every 2 or 3 years.
Ceropegia are considered non toxic to both human and animals.
