How to care for your Ficus Lyrata ‘Bambino’?
Light
Ficus species do well in indirect sunlight. Especially the varieties with variegated leaves love some bright light to enhance the beautiful foliage. Alternatively a spot with partial shade could also work, but growth might fall behind.
Water
In terms of watering the Ficus can be a bit of a diva. On one hand it’s sensitive to overwatering, but on the other hand it also doesn’t like a dry soil. Watering your plant once a week, or perhaps every other week should work. When watering, do the thoroughly and evenly. The soil may stay slightly damp, but never soggy. Once the top few centimeters of the soil are dry, it’s time to water again.
Soil
As Ficus are sensitive to overwatering it’s important to give your Ficus Lyrata ‘Bambino’ good and well draining soil mixture. Combine some potting soil with perlite and pine bark to achieve a draining and airy mixture.
Humidity
Ficus can cope in an average house hold humidity without much problem. However for your Ficus Lyrata ‘Bambino’ to thrive you might want to increase the humidity to about 65%.
Fertilisation
The Ficus Lyrata ‘Bambino’ can grow rapidly in the right environment. In Spring and Summer it is therefore important to fertilize your plant for some extra nutrients. Fertilizing in wintertime is not needed. Before using the product make sure to check and follow the instructions given on the bottle.
Repotting
With fast growing plants frequently repotting is important. When you notice the plant is root bound pot it over to a bigger pot. We recommend using a pot that is one size bigger than its old one. This will give the roots some space to continue to grow, which will result into more growth in the plant it self eventually.
Toxicity
The Ficus is toxic for humans and animals when ingested.
