How to care for your Philodendron Squamiferum?
Light
The Philodendron Squamiferum thrives in a spot with bright but indirect sunlight. This will enhance the grow of the plants and its leaves. The plant will be ok in a spot with more shade, however the growth might be stunned.
Water
The plant doesn’t use too much water depending on your own climate. The plant likes it when the soil is a little moist. Make sure the soil doesn’t dry out.
Soil
Philodendron species likes an airy soil mix which is well draining. In this type of soil the roots have room to grow and your soil doesn’t stay too compact. If you love mixing up your own soil, be sure to check out our shop with several soil components. If you don’t like all this hassle check out or pre-mixed aroid soil mixtures. These are all perfect for Philodendron and other aroids.
Humidity
Like most aroids the Philodendron likes a humid environment. The humidity should be at least 50%. However humidity between 60% and 70% would be even better.
Fertilisation
From mid-March to mid-October (depending on your climate) you can fertilize the plant. In the colder and winter months no fertilizer is needed. Every fertilizer has its own instructions, so always check the instructions on the package for the right amounts.
Repotting
The best time to repot is during the beginning of the growing season. Check if your plant is root bound in it’s nursery pot. Then it’s time to move it to a bigger size pot of around 2 cm extra.
Toxicity
The Philodendron is toxic for humans and animals if ingested.
