How to care for your Saintpaulia Variegated?
Light
Saintpaulia Variegated appreciates a good amount of light each day, but no harsh direct sunlight. You can grow your plant in you windowsill without problems, as long as the sunlight is filtered.
Water
When watering you plant thoroughly soak the soil and then let it dry out for the most part. Watering once every week, or even every other week should be fine. This will mainly depend on your local climate. Thereby it is recommended to use lukewarm water for your Saintpaulia Variegated.
Soil
In order to keep your Saintpaulia Variegated happy it is advisable to use a well draining potting soil which can also retain the needed water. Try using coco coir, perlite and pine bark together for a good consistency. If you don’t like to hustle of mixing you own soil, get some of our Premium Soil Mixture or even the Deluxe Soil Mixture.
Humidity
African Violet plants do appreciate a slightly higher than average humidity. Try keeping it around 60%. How ever it must be said that most African violets will also survive in a regular house hold. It is important though to keep the plant out of cold drafts.
Fertilisation
From mid-March to mid-October it is wise to fertilize your plants. Not only will the fertilizer give much needed nutrients to your plant, it can also enhance the growth. In winter time fertilizing is not needed. How much fertilizer to use and how often to use it will depend on the product you have available. For the correct instruction, always check the bottle before using.
Repotting
The best time to repot is during the beginning of the growing season. Check if your plant is root bound in it’s nursery pot. Then it’s time to move it to a bigger size pot of around 2 cm extra.
Toxicity
The Saintpaulia is not harmful for humans and animals.
