How to care for your Tradescantia Zebrina?
Light
Still have a spot left in an eastern or western facing window sill? This would be the ideal spot for your Tradescantia. These plants love a good amount of bright indirect light. Early mornings or late afternoon they can handle a bit of direct sunlight, but not during the heath of the day. A spot with sufficient light will let the foliage come out perfectly.
Water
To let your Tradescantia Zebrina, aroid the soil to dry out completely in between waterings. You plant will not be very forgiving. The plants does likes a bit of a damp soil. Water your plant about once a week.
Soil
The Tradescantia Zebrina likes an airy soil mix which is well draining. Try using perlite and pine bark with coco coir to keep light. If you don’t like the hassle of making your own soil you can try using our Deluxe aroid mix. Alternately you can go for a hydroponic mix like Pon or Grit.
Humidity
Like most aroids the Tradescantia likes a humid environment. The humidity should be at least 60%. For this plant we advise a humidity of around 65% – 70%.
Fertilisation
In the summer months you can fertilize your plant. In the colder and winter months no fertiliser is needed. Please always check the instructions on your own fertiliser if it has other care instructions.
Repotting
Tradescantia can grow very rapidly when receiving the right care. It’s advisable to repot your plant once a year. The start of the growing season is marked as best period to repot. Always get a new pot which is one size bigger than the last one to ensure the roots have room to grow.
Toxicity
The Tradescantia Zebrina is considered mildy toxic to animals or humans.
